The very weighty Rhineland Heavy Draft goes
under several names and types. It has the Ardennes
as a common ancestor with its Belgian
counterpart. (This may be the same as the Rhenish-German Heavy Draught,
which I currently have listed under the Belgian.
I'm also not sure how this is related to the so-called Rhenish-Dutch Draft.)
The Brandenburg is a strong, noble, hardy warm-blooded horse
similar in type and build to the Hanoverian.
It is a powerful riding and light harness horse. Breeding area--Germany:
Brandenburg. Studs at Neustadt on the Doss.
In addition to the above-mentioned breeds, Germany is or was
also the home of the Noric draft (that is, the Pinzgauer or Upland draft, bred
in Austria), the Oberlander (a lighter form of the Noric breed, apparently also
from the Austrian Alps), the Rhenish-German draft, the Jutland draft (see
Denmark), the Mecklenburg draft, and the Schlettstadt pony, the Brandenburg, the
Freiburger, and the Beberbecker. This last, also called the Beberbeck, is
so-named from its origin in the Beberbeck region of Germany. It was
derived from English Thoroughbreds crossed with Arabs and with previously bred
native (Beberbeck) horses; it is now bred also in Poland.
The Brandenburg is a German horse of medium-heavy build,
resembling generally the Hanoverian.
