Yugoslavia
Horse/Light Horse |
Pony |
I am including this country even though it no
longer exists until I can decide how to relate its breeds with the modern
political divisions. (Actually, since I plan on having pages for extinct
breeds, I may keep pages for extinct countries, too!)
The Yugoslavs also
breed the Hungarian Nonius,
and as in most other countries, there are studs of Arabian
horses. One source also indicated that Serbia and Croatia (in what
was Yugoslavia) are the home of the Bosnian konik (the Bosnian pony mentioned
above and the Konik I have always associated with Poland may or may not be what
this is referring to), the Karster horse, and the Posavina horse, as well as
English Thoroughbreds and halfbreds, Lipizzans (see above), Nonius (large and
small strains), Noric drafts, Hungarian horses, and a number of other imported
breeds.
The Bosnian mountain horse is a strong, hardy and enduring
Yugoslavian breed, of pony size (52-56 inches tall), with some Arabian blood in
its makeup.
