Welsh Pony of Cob Type

Names:  Welsh Pony of Cob Type (Section C  in the Welsh Pony and Cob Society studbook, opened in 1902).

Origin:  Founded on a cross of the Mountain Pony and Welsh Cob, and possesses the good qualities of both.

Breeding:  The Cob Type was developed with the help of the Andalusian, Welsh Cob, and Welsh Mountain Pony.

Description:  The Welsh Pony of Cob Type is generally more stocky and robust than the lighter and smaller first two sections.

Body:  Short back.  Slightly sloping croup.  Deep girth.  Neck arched and well set on.  Sloped shoulders.

Color:  Solid, although piebald and skewbald are also seen.

Head:  Small.  Profile either slightly dished or straight.  Ears small and pricked.  Eyes large and wide-set.

Hooves:  Hard and round.

Legs:  Strong, with short cannon bones.

Size:  Between the Welsh Pony and Welsh Cob.  12 to 13.2 hands.

Temperament:  

Features:  A cobby, small hunter, ride-and-drive type.

Uses:  They make admirable family ponies for those who enjoy driving as well as riding, and are popular for trekking, but they are the least numerous of the "Welshmen."  It makes an excellent trekking mount and a great all-round riding and driving pony.
