Welsh Pony

Names: Welsh, Welsh Pony (Section B in the Welsh Pony and Cob Society studbook, opened in 1902).
Origin: Founded on Welsh Mountain ponies that grew to big. The Welsh Pony is very much like the Welsh Mountain Pony, only larger, having been outcrossed with Hackney and a small Thoroughbred stallion named Merlin.
Breeding: The Welsh Pony was bred from the Welsh Mountain Pony with Oriental blood in more recent times (as in, since the Roman occupation!).
Description:
Body: Short back. Slightly sloping croup. Deep girth. Neck arched and well set on. Sloped shoulders.
Color: Solid, although piebald and skewbald are also seen.
Head: Small. Profile either slightly dished or straight. Ears small and pricked. Eyes large and wide-set.
Hooves: Hard and round.
Legs: Strong, with short cannon bones.
Size: Larger than the Welsh Mountain Pony but not exceeding 13.2 hands.
Temperament:
Features: They have retained the hardiness and vigor of their origins combined with longer legs and length of stride, and they can jump and gallop like miniature steeple-chasers, besides gaining much success in showing.
