United Kingdom
(Great Britain)
I have chosen to make a separate page for
each of these countries for two reasons: 1) There are too many breeds for
one page, and 2) I still think of them as separate countries! I will use the colors of the flags for each
of these individual countries even though I don't have pictures of the flags
right now.
The Yorkshire Coach horse is a British breed of heavy harness
horse that was popular 150-200 years ago, but which has since virtually died
out. The Yorkshire Coach was produced mainly by crossing English
Thoroughbreds with Cleveland Bay horses. Another derivation was by
crossing Arab and Barb stallions with Yorkshire draft mares. These
crossings resulted in a horse of refined appearance up to 66 inches in height,
suitable for drawing the elegant coaches of fashionable Londoners. (I
would love to find out more about this breed; if you know anything about it,
please
contact me!
Thanks!)
