Common. Only hummingbird east of Great Plains except Rufous, which is rare in Gulf and South Atlantic states in late fall and winter. Only the adult male has the bright red throat. Often detected by rapid, squeaky, chipping made in flight or by the hum of the wings. Found near tubular flowers in gardens or woods.
