The Litchi (Litchi chinensis) whose origin is evident from the specific Latin name, is a strange fruit, similar to a large walnut, of 1 - 1 1/2 inches in diameter, with an involucre covered by a shiny, scaly shell which contains the edible part, composed of a fleshy white mass completely covering the seed.
