ABOUT  US

Harmon Field is supported by property taxes from the Harmon Field Tax District, which includes properties in the Tryon Township, and was approved by the state, the local governing board and the taxpayers themselves. These taxes pay the salaries of the staff, and fees are charged for use of the equestrian facilities, the cabin and the enclosed picnic sheds to assist in routine maintenance and repairs, with users from outside the tax district paying higher fees. However, major capital improvement projects require additional funding from donations and/or grants. The purpose of Friends of Harmon Field is to bring together both residents and non-residents who enjoy the park's facilities to participate in Harmon Field's future growth and development.

The role of the Friends organization includes:

  1. Suggesting ideas for new projects;

  2. Expanding community contact and acting as eyes and ears for public needs and opinions;

  3. Generating local support and matching funds for grant awards;

  4. Undertaking small project fund-raising events, activities, and grant applications;

  5. Providing quick response to small project immediate needs; and

  6. Providing volunteer manpower for small, but important, landscaping, cleanup, and gardening projects to enhance the appearance of Harmon Field.

In addition, when the Friends of Harmon Field establishes itself as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, contributions it collects will be tax deductible to the donors. This would be a mechanism for both residents of Tryon Township and non-residents who wish to contribute to Harmon Field. In the meantime, tax deductible donations can be made to Harmon Field through Tryon City Hall.
