Ishmael
Born: Abram was 86 years old.
Name: Hagar was told by "the angel of the LORD" to call her son Ishmael, meaning "God shall hear," "because the LORD hath heard thy affliction."
Married: It is said that "his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt."
Children: Nebajoth ("the firstborn"), Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
Other: We are told that "his people...dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria." There are multiple references to Ishmael and his descendants throughout the Old Testament. In Psalm 83:6, there is also reference to "the Hagarenes," and in 1 Chronicles 5:19, to "the Hagarites," presumably meaning the children of Hagar, his mother. It is generally accepted that Ishmael, or Ismail, as he is known in Arabic, is the father of the Arabs.
Died: Lived 137 years.
