Names: Minho. I have heard in several places that the Minho and the Garrano are the same breed. The picture above was labeled "Minho Garrano pony." I used to think they were different. I will allow them to be the same until I find out otherwise.
Origin: Minhos make up about three-quarters of the entire equine population in Portugal. They are thought to be descendants of those horses of long ago that served as models for old Stone Age paintings--which can be seen on the wall of the Cave of Altamira, in Spain. Minhos also probably helped to found both Alters and Lusitanos.
