Bhutia Pony

Names:  Bhutia or Bhotia Pony.  I found this second name while I was looking for more information on the first.  I believe they are the same breed; at least, the information seems to coincide.  It has also been spelled Butea pony.

Origin:  The Bhotia Pony is found in Nepal, Bhutan, and the Sikkim and Darjeeling regions of India.  (One source says Nepal and other regions of the Himalayas.)  It is also found in parts of the Punjab.

Breeding:  

Description:  Similar to the Spiti but larger, it stands 51-55 inches high and is usually grey or iron-grey in color.

Color:  Usually gray or bay.

Size:  About 13.3 hands.

Uses:  They are a riding and pack animal, similar to the Tibetan Pony but less broad.  Used as sure-footed pack animals over the high and dangerous trails in the Himalayas.
