Horses in Azerbaijan: A Study in Pictures
Patron: He is the horse that will hardly ever be afraid or get frightened by anything. He is very consistent in the things he does. Only when he gets on the race track and when there is a true race for him (somehow he knows that), then only the person who he trusts could hold him--he will just throw the rest around. When he gets into the dressage arena (just for riding; he knows that it has nothing to do with racing), it is the greatest joy to ride him or watch him and again, he is very consistent. My friend says that he is the safest horse to ride; it's just that you should gain his respect and trust!

Pero: He participates in racing (and performs fine) and is usually ridden by his owner who is beginner in horse riding (or was when this was written!). At the time this picture was taken, they had been together for more than a year and, God bless them, had no trouble so far.

Pistolet: He use to be race horse; now he performs as a show jumper and does it really well, under both professionals and kids. At the opening ceremony the year this picture was taken, he won under saddle with a very young rider. (My friend mentioned a horse that was bought abroad for big money and all others around; I need to check with him to be sure what he meant; I think he was saying that Pistolet beat the imported horse and all the others besides, despite being the smallest jumper there!) He jumps very accurately and people say that he has a big heart!

Safir: My friend says he is the same as Pero (see above), but "a winner horse"!

Sarin: He is Derby winner (I need to find out which Derby) and very quiet; hardly anything will take him out of temper!

Sumbul (or Sunbul?): My friend says this is the dad of one of the foals I have pictures of; I need to find out which foal. He also says this stallion would never do anything if not asked to do it.
