Low-growing plants with fleshy leaves and stems. Brilliant flowers usually open fully only in bright light and close by midafternoon in hot weather. Plants bloom from late spring until frost, though quality may decline in late summer. Thrive in high temperatures, intense sunlight. Grow to 6 inches high, 1-1/2 feet across. Leaves cylindrical, pointed, 1 inch long. Trailing, branched reddish stems. Lustrous, roselike, 1-inch-wide flowers in red, cerise, rose pink, orange, yellow, white, pastel shades.
