Papaver rhoeas: Slender, branching, hairy-stemmed plant 2-5 feet high. Short, irregularly divided leaves; single or double flowers 2 inches or wider in red, pink, white, orange, scarlet, salmon, bicolors. Selections bearing single scarlet flowers with a black base are sold as "American Legion" or "Flanders Field."
