The 1 to several flowering stems of this showy perennial may be 3 feet or more tall. The compact terminal inflorescence, with individual flowers 1/2 - 3/4 inch across, is usually about as broad as long. This southeastern species, often cultivated, is found in deciduous woods and along forest margins more or less throughout our state.
