The flower of this striking and variable native perennial is on a short stalk or pedicel.  The firm, white petals may be up to 2 inches long and turn pink as they age.  The plants are 12 - 24 inches tall.  This Trillium is restricted to rich woods, usually on basic soils, in the mountains where it may be found at widely scattered localities, often in spectacular colonies.  A species of the eastern U.S.  April - May [Justice, William S. and Bell, C.
