Wild Ass
Introduction: If you have any comments or suggestions, please click here. The picture above is of a Somali wild ass.
Names: While this is often called the wild ass (and it is not usually capitalized), it should probably be referred to as the African wild ass. Various subgroups, such as the Somali wild ass or Nubian wild ass, are referred to under their respective areas of origin. This is, however, an entirely different kind of wild ass from the Asiatic wild ass, variously called the kiang or the onager.
Origin: Africa. It used to be quite common, but is now endangered due to hunting and various other problems in its homeland.
Breeding: This is a wild relative of the donkey.
Description:
Hair: The mane is shorter than that of a horse.
Height: Up to 11 hands.
Legs: Interestingly, it does not have chestnuts.
Temperament:
Features: As is probably well known, an ass differs from a horse because it makes a braying noise instead of neighing.
