Names:  Sardinian, Sardinian Pony, Acchetta.

Origin:  Sardinia.

Breeding:  Ancestry no doubt traceable to imported Barbs.

Description:  Very noble, light, rather large pony.

Action:  Energetic, quick movements in walk and trot; brisk gallop.

Body:  Considerable depth of chest; strong back; rounded croup; well-placed tail; shoulders good; usually slightly round barrel.

Color:  Usually brown, black, bay, or liver chestnut.

Head:  Attractive, noble.

Hooves:  Good, healthy, hard and vertical.

Legs:  Fine-boned, clean, sturdy, often somewhat irregularly placed, with clearly marked sinews and joints; long fetlocks.

Neck:  Well-shaped and well-defined.

Size:  13.3 to 14.3 hands (55-59 inches).

Temperament:  Lively.

Features:  Long-living: 30-35 years.

Uses:  Particularly popular as costermonger's horse and cab-horse, especially in Southern Italy.
