Names: Noma. Named for the county in Japan where they orginated. Called both a horse or a pony; grouped as a pony due to size.
Origin: The Noma originated in Noma County, Japan. The breed originated in the seventeenth century and belongs to the Asian group descended from Mongolian stock. As of December 1988, there were only twenty-seven pure specimens living. They are being preserved as part of the local cultural heritage, and their population status is rare.
