Names: Furioso, Furioso-Northstar. Named for the two founding stallions of the breed. I will use the shorter name, which I believe came into general use in more recent years as the Northstar strain was absorbed into the main, Furioso strain.
Origin: Hungary: Comitat Czanad, Mezõhegyes Stud. Czechoslovakia: Kladrub Stud. Austria: Burgenland.
Breeding: Founded by the English Thoroughbred stallion Furioso and the Yorkshire half-bred Northstar, about the middle of the last century (in other words, mid-1800s).
Description:
Action: Energetic, very precise action in all three gaits.
Body: Not very large-framed; powerful back; well-developed shoulders; muscular quarters; excellent barrel.
Color: Predominately all shades of bay.
Head: Refined.
Legs: Strong and very straight with strong, hard and clean tendons and joints.
Size: 16 to 16.2 hands.
Temperament: Reliable.
Features: Solid build, but without any outstanding brilliance--hence very tough, enduring and economical. Rather late in maturing at six years.
Uses: All-purpose, pure-bred working horse, proficient and energetic.
