Names: Cayuse, Cayuse Indian Pony. Named for the tribe that originally bred it.
Origin: Unlike other Native American breeds, the Cayuse Indian Pony came from northwest Canada and was bred using French horses brought from Europe by the early settlers. The Cayuse in this region started breeding these ponies. Sadly, the breed is now very scarce and is mainly limited to California.
