Names: Canadian Cutting Horse. I'm not yet sure whether this is the same as the breed simply referred to as the Canadian. Named for its ability to drive or "cut" a particular cow out of a herd. It will stay with the cow, stopping it from rejoining the rest of the herd.
Origin: Canada.
Breeding:
Description: This intelligent, agile horse looks similar to the American Quarter Horse from which it is bred.
Size: Up to 16 hands.

Accomplishments: In 1964, the Canadian Cutting Horse Association took a team to Britain to give exhibitions at the leading shows. They also presented Prince Philip with a young Cutting Horse, Max Charge, later trained to polo. The favorite sport of "Cutting" grew out of ranch work, especially separating individual cattle from the herd. The horse must be very fast, agile and muscular, for executing the fantastically sharp turns performed at speed and, above all, full of "cow sense"--the keenness and ability to outwit and outmaneuver cattle. Cutting Horses are exceptionally sensitive to the slightest "neck-rein" or shift of weight. The majority of Canadian cattle horses are pure or part-bred American Quarter Horses, but there are many other American breeds in the country.
