Dorothy Frances Blomfield Gurney

Died: June 15, 1932, Notting Hill, London, England.
Dorothy was the daughter of Frederick Blomfield, rector at St. Andrew’s Undershaft in London. She married Gerald Gurney (a some time actor) in 1897. Her husband was originally an Anglican priest, but they both joined the Roman Catholic church in 1919. Dorothy is perhaps best known for her poem “God’s Garden,” source of the verse often seen on garden signs:
The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
