This naturalized and now weedy perennial, once used medicinally, may have been introduced into this country as an ornamental because of its bright yellow flower heads. The young leaves are sometimes used either as a salad or a cooked vegetable. The globose cluster of fruits is 1-2 inches in diameter. Common in lawns, pastures, and waste places and along roadsides throughout North Carolina and much of the U.S. February - June [Justice, William S. and Bell, C.
