Although the wide leaves of these plants may grow to a foot in length they are relatively short when the plants are in bloom. The sepals have a ciliate or pubescent crest in a white area near the base, and thus differ from the Dwarf Iris. An infrequent, rhizomatous, native perennial of rich woods of our mountains and piedmont. It occurs generally over much of the Eastern U.S. April - May. [Justice, William S. and Bell, C.
