Of the many species and selections -- all notable for flower color or fragrance, or both -- these are the most commonly available.  Buddleias look best if pruned hard each year.  May die to ground in winter in Upper South.  Need well-drained soil. Deciduous or semievergreen.   Dark violet flower panicles.  Narrow leaves. [Bender, Steve, Southern Living Garden Book, The.
